1) Tell us a little something about your organization…
The Canadian Women’s Chamber of Commerce (CanWCC) is the first (and only) Chamber of Commerce in Canada that provides advocacy and resources for women-identified business owners and entrepreneurs. I was running my accounting firm in 2017, hearing the same stories of frustration from clients (most of whom were women), and encountering the same challenges and obstacles in growing my own business. I realized that change was needed at the policy level.
2) When was your lightbulb moment?
I knew that I wanted to contribute to larger, systemic change at the macro level. When a fellow woman entrepreneur mentioned to me that Canada didn’t have a woman’s Chamber of Commerce, I realized that was a huge gap in advocacy that needed to be addressed. I started to research how to start a Chamber of Commerce, and five months later, I formally launched the Canadian Women’s Chamber of Commerce.
3) Three words of advice…
