1) Tell us a little something about your business…
I grew up on a sheep, grain and horse stud at the bottom of New Zealand, studied Electrical and Electronic Engineering and later a Graduate Diploma in Fashion Design. As an entrepreneur, I’ve cofounded and sold a tech company and been involved in several start-ups. I’ve trained in a variety of facilitation techniques and am a student-guide for the Way of Nature. I believe that entrepreneurs and those that
support them are the pathfinders of the business world. I am and will continue to be a pathfinder and am now applying myself to thought leadership shaping new business models by including Nature’s Voice and utilising new technologies, to support our
evolution. I offer workshops, retreats, facilitation and am the business strategist for two businesses utilising blockchain.

2) When was your lightbulb moment?
In my mid 20’s, I attended a pivotal life changing Way of Nature retreat in Colorado where it became clear to me that business was my vehicle for the impact I’d like to have in the world. Business is about relationships, however Nature is often not recognised as a critical stakeholder who we need to include in our planning and decision making. Anyone can connect with and listen to Nature’s Voice. I help people remember how.

3) Three words of advice…

When planning and making decisions, “Include Nature’s Voice”.

1) Tell us a little something about your business…
My mission with Blend Catering, before anything, is to evoke passion through food to inspire others to find beauty in their own lives. By sharing thoughtful plates and experiences, my team and I put the needs of our clients’ guests first, and highlight food at its peak time in mother nature.  One of my most rewarding pursuits is to share my techniques in approachable ways, for every skill level, from my cooking classes to in-home dining.

2) When was your lightbulb moment?
Let me paint a picture… I was working in finance, sitting in a co-workers office and listening to her bitch about how long she had to retire ( it was 10 years) In that moment, I realized that I had to work for longer than I had been alive for!! That was it, the lightbulb moment. I had to go after what I was passionate about. I was accepted to culinary school, handed in my notice and bought a house, all in 2 weeks. I haven’t looked back since!

3) Three words of advice…
1) Live your passion! 2) Plan! Set yourself up financially so that you don’t have to worry and stress about money as much. For me this looked like a bank account that had enough money to float me for 3 months if my business made zero dollars- I’m happy to say that never happened and its likely because I planned for it. 3) Be a Chameleon. You have to be able to adjust and adapt ALL THE TIME! Without this skill, its likely to be a hard and trying road while navigating and growing your business.

Passion…Plan…Chameleon

1) Tell us a little something about your business…
Grey Wolf Animal Health is a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on improving the wellbeing of vets and pets in Canada. We are approaching animal health differently than the traditional pharma model that has been in place for many years. Started by a practicing veterinarian, our company’s mission is to use insights based on over 50 years of combined practice to bring to market products and services that add value and fill a need within the veterinary practice. We are thinking outside the box in every aspect of our business from our products to our sales and marketing strategies. The opportunity to be different in the animal health industry and build this company from the ground up is very exciting.

2) When was your lightbulb moment?
I jumped at the opportunity to join Grey Wolf and started as Vice President of Business Development, a role I was very comfortable with having worked in similar roles for many years in the specialty pharma world. However, when first approached about moving into a leadership role as the President of Grey Wolf, my initial reaction was “I can’t do that, I have never done that before.” That’s when the lightbulb went on, I was talking myself out of a role simply because I had not done it before and failing to consider that it could end up being the most challenging and rewarding professional experience. I had to re-align my thinking and take that leap of faith believing that I am more than capable of rising to the challenge and figuring it out as I go. Too often we hear stories of women turning down opportunities because we feel that we are unqualified, yet all around us our male counterparts are more likely to jump first and ask questions later. I am one year into the new role and yes, it has been challenging as the company is rapidly growing, but the learning and growth, both professionally and personally, are equally rewarding.

3) Three words of advice…
Integrity. Honesty. Transparency. These three words stand the test of time and reflect both my professional and personal mantra for 2019, particularly as we look to build investor and employee confidence during this time of rapid growth and transition for the company.

1) Tell us a little something about your books…
My Northern Vacation? And Thoughts into Words
Originally started as a blog, My Northern Vacation follows the day to day experiences of the author as the  custodian of a closed up Mine site in the seclusion of Northern Ontario during  a particularly cold winter. The book describes the solitudes,  setbacks and triumphs associated with living alone in an isolated environment. Thoughts into Words is a book containing poems and insights where the author tried to capture the thoughts and actions of his subjects and how that person must have reacted in particular circumstances.

2) When was your lightbulb moment?
This was when a friend told me she had a book published and I was extremely happy for her.The light came on and I then realised that I had  so much material written and I too could write a book…in fact I was so enthusiastic I wrote two!

3) Three words of advice…
Stay with your dream. Writing can be very isolating…find a group of like minded people, share, listen, learn. You will get and give encouragement and the journey will be less lonely if you have friendship and input and a sense of belonging.

1) Tell us a little something about your business…
As the President of Linked-Express and LinkedIn in High Heels: Rise Up and Lead Online, my mission is simple: To combine my love and knowledge of LinkedIn with my love for empowering diverse professionals (soft spot for women) to use LinkedIn as a way to find their voice, own their space, and become socially fearless. I speak, facilitate workshops, and conduct training all over the world. LinkedIn is such a powerful and complex tool, and when used right, it can offer so many people the opportunity to lead, to empower, and to build a powerful online community.

2) When was your lightbulb moment?
My desire to find my voice again came about in 2010. After paying a coffee forward to a LinkedIn Representative, I was introduced to some key people who would become mentors and help make my dream come true. LinkedIn gave me my voice back and I wanted to pay that forward. I build such an amazing online community and realized that the key to my LinkedIn success was grounded in learning the Art of Social Reciprocity. I became known as the LinkedIn SuperWoman spreading goodness and kindness around like confetti; the drive to spread and chase that dream is honestly what gets me up every morning.

1) Tell us a little something about your business…
I was  a pioneer in the  Canadian fitness industry – co-owned a gym in the 90,S , opened a personal training studio in 2001  and  dabbled in  competitive body building. Although I looked very good , I was not feeling healthy . Around the same time frame, I lost my mother very suddenly one evening to a heart attack and stroke . After witnessing dreadful hospital care , unanswered questions from the medical system , along with my own personal health issues , I felt that  I needed to learn more about our bodies.

2) When was your lightbulb moment?

In 2008, I went back to school for naturopathy and opened my practice in 2011 called Live the Wow …
(world of wellness ). The knowledge acquired in school along with the amazing healing journeys witnessed by some clients led me to desperately want to deliver this message to the world ……..‘What your body created , it can heal . “ Disease is an illusion “ My book , Let’s Practice Health , learn why your gut is the CEO of your health was published in 2017.

Maxine Warsh is on a mission to bring great skin care and facial rejuvenation to as many
people as she can. “When you feel good, you look good—and vice versa—and life opens up to so many new possibilities. This is why I set out to bring good skin care and simple rejuvenation know-how to as many people as I can.” says Maxine. Maxine started her business over a dozen years ago—when a medical practitioner mentioned that the micro-current being used to treat her mom’s bout of Ramsey Hunt Syndrome would also help with anti-aging. “Next thing you know, I’d found a wonderful engineer to create a proprietary cosmetic micro-current unit for me–The MDX MiniPRO. I used this for facial
rejuvenation treatments and its applied in beauty centers, plus I developed a professional level DIY home unit— and I offer training and guidance for people who want to start their own anti-aging business.”

2) When was your lightbulb moment?
Because Maxine believes in natural beauty, she launched her own epiCARE Black
Label range of products. All are non-toxic and free of drying chemicals—and good for you and your complexion. Her most popular product is the all-natural, skin-friendly, one of a kind little miracle worker WARSH Cloth. All you need is water to easily remove makeup and grime, cleanse, and exfoliate all-in-one—and it’s reusable over and over. “Once clients use the WARSH Cloth—they almost never switch back to drying cleansers.”

3) Three words of advice…
My three words of advice for anyone contemplating starting a business—Follow Your Dream! You’ll never regret it—that’s the route to happiness and contentment. (Oops/that was more than three words. But I feel so blessed that I’ve been able to follow my passion and enjoy every day of it!)

1) Tell us a little something about your business…Beyond Branding
Every business is searching for that elusive differentiator – How to stand out? I had been working in the branding business for over 25 years on big global brands. It was fun and I learned a lot but as a brand strategist what I found was I was trying to find the differentiator for a brand when there was often nothing different about it. This began my quest to create more meaningful brands that were truly different. That was 10 years ago.

2) When was your lightbulb moment?
My lightbulb moment happened when I was preparing a keynote speech for The Design Leaders Conference in Dublin, Ireland. The title of my talk was “How to Differentiate”. I was pondering the notion of differentiation when I realized that differentiation is so much more than finding the right words to say you’re different. It’s actually about BEING DIFFERENT. It’s hard enough to find the words but actually being different is a whole other ball of wax.  My speech offered a very new way of looking at business differentiation and ideas about how to be different ranging from the way you provide services to your business model to the way you do client relationships. After my talk a design firm owner approached me and said that he was changing everything about his business. I had struck a chord!  My goal now is true differentiation, beyond branding. When you begin with doing one thing differently, there’s a ripple effect and everything changes.

3) Three words of advice…
BE DIFFERENT (for real) and don’t just say you’re different. Not always easy but it will change everything!

Be Different…

1) Tell us a little something about your business…
In providing services and products through both of my companies, the overall goal is to help business get the most out of their space. Most of us spend the majority of our time indoors, often in our work environments. Through innovative interior design we aim to support businesses in creating spaces that; reflect their brand, attract and retain ideal customers and partners, support their teams and ultimately promote well-being.

2) When was your lightbulb moment?
My decisions to become an entrepreneur was more a series of small glimmers, than an obvious “lightbulb” moment. I grew up in a family business, but it wasn’t until my mid twenties that I really noticed the culmination of intrapreneurial and leadership roles throughout my life. Once I realized that I was more focused on the businesses that I was working for than the technical skills I had acquired, I knew it was time to take the leap.

3) Three words of advice…

I have always been motivated by the mission of making a positive impact through the pursuit my passions. Having passion makes us focused and driven, however it is also important to embrace the reality that we are ever changing as individuals. Innovation, is how I identify with growth- it is the constant evolution of ourselves, our gifts and our passions. Impact, on myself and the world around me, is how I evaluate my ideas and the direction in which I am “growing,” as a professional.

Passion… Innovation… Impact

1) Tell us a little something about your business…
I launched my company Bstellar Consulting Group in 2015 to help professionals and entrepreneurs strengthen their skills in public speaking, leadership, event planning and advocacy. I am passionate about helping others turn their vision into reality and equip my clients with the tools they need to “ignite their inner essence.” I will be launching webinars and e-books to make my services more accessible to a global audience. Prior to starting my company, I was unable to find employment in my field of government relations and public policy. After sending out over 700 resumes, I was committed to creating my own job by utilizing my skills, education and
experience in sales, public service, customer service and administration

2) When was your lightbulb moment?
My lightbulb moment was when I realized I was hiding my gifts from the world by keeping pomes and songs that I wrote over 20 years ago locked in a box collecting dust. In 2017 I made a commitment to myself to publish my first book, Deeper Reflections of Life: Words to Inspire the Heart and Uplift the Soul, which was released in July 2018 in honour of late mother, Winnifred Berry.

3) Three words of advice…
Never Walk Alone: True success is measured by the amount of people you help along your journey. Successful people invest in others, share their talents with the world and leave a lasting legacy. You need people with broad range of skills to build business or team. Each person in your network has something valuable to offer and can propel your level of success. Relationships are your greatest assets. Show
gratitude to the people on your team. When the doors of opportunities open, never walk alone. Bring your team with you!
