1) Tell us a little something about your business…
For over 20 years I have worked in the space of women and money and have acquired, scaled and sold 2 businesses during that time. I know when women make money they have choices and change the world. I have a unique ability to show women the
systems and processes necessary to sustain and scale their business and making sure they keep more of the money they make.

2) When was your lightbulb moment?
I am an accidental entrepreneur who has said yes to the right opportunities at the right time. It took me awhile to realize that the skills I have with systems, processes, revenue, cash flow and profits are not natural to most people. When I took the time in 2010 to document what I did to scale my companies it became obvious that I could show other women business owners how to do what I did as it applied to their companies. Now I have clients from beekeepers to bookkeepers in locations all around the world.

2) When was your lightbulb moment?
I was always passionate about fashion. My entire life I strived to find pieces that were unique and different for myself. I didn’t want to dress like everyone else, I wanted to wear clothes that were personally inspiring. I found myself always reading about
fashion, watching Paris and Milan runway shows, attending Toronto’s Fashion week each year. I certainly had invested my 10,000 hours. One day while vacationing I walked into a quaint boutique. A women at the helm, styling a client with the most
interesting assortment – and that was my lightbulb moment! My community needs a boutique like this. I knew there were other women out there like me, that sought out fashion that was different, unique and didn’t have to get on plane or drive hours to find it . My community needs a fresh, new thoughtfully curated collection of clothes and
accessories and guess what ? Im going to bring it to them!

3) Three words of advice…
Follow your North Star  Set your North Star Goal and don’t give up. Don’t give up even if your first path doesn’t lead you there. Be open to changing your strategy and continually tweaking along the way. Giving yourself some flexibility along the way will help you overcome barriers and keep you moving forward.

1) Tell us a little something about being an Olympic Athlete in
Track & Field and the Canadian Record Holder in the 200M
Since I decided to start my journey in track and field, I have seen women and girls being told that they can’t do thing boys and men can do; I’m determined to show that we as females can do anything we put our minds to. Being able to make history in Canada as the Canadian record holder in the 200m, I can put my action to work in helping other women and girls understand that we are capable of becoming our best selves no matter if we are sitting at a desk, playing in the gym, running, jumping, swimming or being a mother.

2) When was your lightbulb moment?
My lightbulb moment was 2016 when I made the olympic semi-finals. I told myself that I don’t want to be a semi-finalist anymore, I need to set my goals and make them higher – I know I can be a finalist or even a medallist, my journey to being a top world class
athlete is just beginning. In 2017, I became the first female in Canada to make a world championship final. Becoming the fastest women in Canada was a key milestone that showed me that I am on the right track to becoming one of the world’s best female
athletes – the sky is the limit!

1) Tell us a little something about Lumehra…
My journey began with the simple idea of designing a product to address the lack of time I had as a new parent. As a first-time mom, working full-time within the corporate world and trying to balance family time, I realized that I was spending a significant amount of time on daily tasks which were very inefficient. I realized there was a lack of products which helped save time and money. I focused on laundry and realized the entire process of doing laundry has not changed for decades, it’s time-consuming and inefficient. I wanted to design and develop a product which would replace multiple laundry items and still be used for other needs. This led me to develop the FlexBag. The design and functionality of the FlexBag allows you to replace
multiple laundry items and still use the FlexBag for more than just laundry. I wanted the
FlexBag to be efficient, time-saving and cost saving, a bag which can be used from laundry to travel to a trunk organizer for kid’s items to a beach bag to anything I need.

2) When was your lightbulb moment?
My first prototype of the FlexBag was made from canvas material which I glued to make the shape of what I envisioned. Five prototypes later, I had a workable, patentable design. Throughout the process, I never focused on starting a company, rather creating bag for me and my family. It’s only when I showed the prototype to other parents, I realized most families were searching for the same thing, quality time with their families. Time is an element, we cannot get more of, so why aren’t products we buy focused on helping us at home?  In 2017, I left my corporate position and started LUMEHRA, with the focus of developing products designed to help families save time and money.

3) Three words of advice…
Three words of advice that I can offer emerging entrepreneurs is know your worth.
Being an entrepreneur is a very lonely path, you will be tested many times on the path of achieving your goals. If you know your worth (your value, your abilities), you will be able to
maneuver obstacles, learn and grow from challenging situations.

Know Your Worth

Anu Luthra is an entrepreneur, inventor, CEO and founder of LUMEHRA.
Anu started LUMEHRA in 2017 wit
h the idea of developing innovative, problem-solving products for busy families. As more families lead busier and busier lives, our quality family time is decreasing. She developed the FlexBag to help make daily tasks more efficient, so families can focus on spending time together.

1)  Tell us a little something about your business …
Williams Residential Design offers a full range of design services specializing in both custom homes and renovations. My philosophy: “We design your dreams and our  future legacy.” Over the last 45 years, it has been humbling to be internationally  recognized by my peers in both commercial and residential projects as a builder,  developer and architectural designer.  It is with great pride and integrity that I credit these opportunities with thanks to my clients who provide a showcase for my designs. There is no doubt that I love what I do…

2) When was your lightbulb moment?
As a child I was always drawing and sketching, my 10th grade art teacher encouraged me to be creative. When it came time to choose a career, I actually wanted to be a  surgeon but realized that I would not have the finances to get through med school.  It was at this time that I fell in love again with drawing and that was it…architecture  became my passion –   For the last 45 years, she has been the love of my life!

3) Three words of advice…OK 4 words of advice…

1)   Tell us a little something about Raiz…
Raiz supplies a line of healthy, coffee-alternative drinks made with adaptogens (superfoods) that provide natural energy and immune-boosting properties. The ingredients we use, such as matcha, moringa, turmeric and chaga mushrooms are all nutritional powerhouses and won’t leave you with the dreaded 3pm crash. After finishing my degree in holistic nutrition, I traveled to Portugal to visit my grandmother, who can no longer drink coffee due to the negative side effects, she — like many others — experienced after consumption (jitters, upset stomach, dehydration). However, as most grandparents do, she had a large threshold of knowledge, and introduced me to herbs and roots she used as coffee-alternatives. The first one was chicory root, which has a bitter, earthy note  when roasted, similar to coffee. This is an ingredient that you will find in one of our flavours.

2)   When was your lightbulb moment?
I knew that I wanted to create something in the health and wellness field, and after studying to become a certified nutritionist, I was sure that my passion laid in consumer product goods. When I came back from Portugal, chicory root in hand, I found a real lack of ready-to-drink products that provided energy — but that we’re also healthy, low in sugar, not overly caffeinated, and used the power of adaptogens. I knew in that moment that there was something to be done, and I am so excited to educate and share what I have learned on how we may all incorporate adaptogens in our lives.

3)  Three words of advice…OK 7…
1) Just Start. There are many reasons not to take the risk, a big part of that – fear of the unknown; but if you have a burning idea or passion just start. Make a first step, sooner or later you’ll realize that you are making moves and your business is coming to life.  2) Take care of Yourself. Nothing is more important than your health. Eat well, don’t compromise on sleep, drink lots of water, move your body and spend time with loved ones – I wholly believe that being a well-rounded person makes you a better business person.  3) Connect. Participate in as many networking events as you can, talk to your competitors and learn from people that have done it before. A good rule of thumb is to never leave a meeting without another contact.

Just Start…Take Care of Yourself…Connect

1) Tell us a little something about your podcast?
Run it like a girl is a weekly podcast that highlights women from a variety of fields who are breaking barriers, making a difference and rising to the top of their field by doing things their own way.

2) When was your lightbulb moment?
I was looking for a way that I could have an impact outside of my day to day,  and I remembered back to a leadership program I was fortunate to participate in through my work. My favourite part of the program was hearing the stories of  women who were leading change makers in their industries. I decided that I likely wasn’t alone in finding inspiration from other people’s journeys so I decided to do a podcast. No time like the present to try and have an impact.

3) Three words of advice…
Go for it!
If your anything like me… there is no time like the present to try and have an impact.

Go For It!

Bonnie Mouck is a passionate advocate for the advancement of women, and strongly believes that if you see an issue you should try and fix it. She founded Run it Like a Girl as a way to showcase women doing remarkable things. Her hope is for the series to be a source of inspiration and courage for others to find their passion and go for what they want.  Find out more information on the podcast at www.runitlikeaigrl.ca.
