1) Tell us a little something about your business…
Equine Facilitated Wellness is a healing modality that I offer in conjunction with my wellness coaching practice for parents of highly sensitive and special needs children. After raising my exceptional son who was diagnosed on the autism spectrum, and knowing how unimaginably complex this diagnosis was for myself and my family,
I designed a program that combines my gifts of intuition and connection to horses with my expertise in social work, coaching, energy work and classical yoga. I combine
online coaching with in-person equine sessions in the form of a 6-week program
customized around each parents’ individual needs and schedules. I offer a safe space to be heard and supported and share simple calming practices and emotional wellness tools in conjunction with experiences with the horses. No riding is involved and all
activities are done on the ground at each person’s comfort level.

2) When was your lightbulb moment?
I worked with horses throughout my teen years then was away from them for 20 years. When I reconnected with them for my own self-care after a period of burnout, I was amazed at the similarities they shared with highly sensitive children. Having done many therapies and programs to help my son over the years. I was excited to find that being with the horses provided me with a new way to see him and be with others.

3) Three words of advice…
My passion is helping individuals, especially parents, access their greatness and
cultivate the support they need from within. Helping parents trust themselves and their kids while connecting from the heart. This takes dedicated time, presence, and
compassion and can be incredibly comforting and effective when it comes from
someone who’s walked a similar path.

1) Tell us a little something about your business…
Sun Vixen Swimwear is an online destination for women shopping for designer luxury swimwear. The website (sunvixen.com) features a collection of swimsuits made by some of the best designer brands in the world – several of which have been featured in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Editions. I launched Sun Vixen because I was frustrated by the poor selection available in physical and online swimwear stores in Canada – a sentiment shared by many people I spoke to. It was a challenge to find stylish and fashionable swimsuits which could be worn for special occasions such as a girl’s trip to Arizona or a Las Vegas Pool party. Many feature bright colours and stylish designs reminiscent of a previous trip to Hawaii that planted an original seed of launching my own company.I’ve also made it a priority to partner with brands that know the value of creating high quality swimwear – where the craftsmanship matters as much as the design.I’ve helped promote the brands through my website and social media channels while also taking the opportunity to educate consumers on why Sun Vixen is distinctive compared to other retailers.

2) When was your lightbulb moment?
My lightbulb moment came to me while I was working in a corporate job.
While I enjoyed it along with the people I worked with, it also had its share of
challenges. I had always dreamed of starting my own business and in July 2017,
I decided the timing was right.

3) Three words of advice…
For anyone thinking of starting their own business but questioning whether they can succeed, my advice is: Yes you can! I have no regrets about leaving the corporate world and taking the proverbial plunge into the swimwear business. So, if you have a dream of becoming your own boss, I say go for it.

Yes You Can!

1) Tell us a little something about your business…
Bonnie Flemington Wellness provides coaching to busy women on easy food and habit-building strategies they can use to lose weight and regain energy, without feeling deprived or spending hours in the kitchen. Whether in my personal coaching program ,one of my groups or corporate wellness programs, I provide a system that fits into a busy life so that it is actually achievable. I began this journey to provide a solution for the feelings of
frustration about how to be full of energy and body-confident that I observed in others and felt in my own life.

2) When was your lightbulb moment?
I knew that I wanted to create something in the wellness space when I discovered the strong connection between the food we eat and our health symptoms. While this might sound like common sense, it’s something I only discovered when changes in my diet and lifestyle helped me to manage my food cravings and eliminate my pain from
osteoarthritis. After graduating as a Certified Nutritionist, I discovered my passion and abilities for helping others transform their food relationship to get to their goals once and for all.

3) Three words of advice…
Start. If you wait until everything is perfect, you will never get started. Once we start, our fears diminish and we feel more in control and optimistic. While there is always more to learn, the only way to determine those things is to move forward. Believe. As an entrepreneur, I have had my share of limiting beliefs about what I can achieve. And sometimes what we need most to keep moving forward is to get out of our own way. Share. None of us is good at everything and there is no prize for trying to do it all alone. Reach out and share with others and you’ll be amazed at what you receive in return. We are stronger together

Start…Believe…Share

1) Tell us a little something about your business…
I had a coaching practice on the side while I worked as a marketing director at a
Multinational Consumer Goods Company. I kept trying to leave my day job but I was getting over 6-figures and had an immigrant mentality (thanks Mom and Dad!) so I could never let go. Then I had a fight at work with a woman who I later found out was on anti-depressants. It lasted 2 years and my boss did nothing to resolve the issue. One day, I just had enough and said “that’s it, I’m gonna live my dream” and that’s how I finally had the courage to leave. I pray to that woman every day
.

2) When was your lightbulb moment?
The moment where I decided I wasn’t going back to looking for a job was a credit to my mentor, the words of dearly departed Dr. Wayne Dyer’s “Don’t die with your music in you”. They were so profound for me then and still today because if you think about the fact that only 15% of the population in Canada own their own full-time business. The rest have to bow down to other peoples’ whims the way I had to for 18 years!

3) Three words of advice…
Brave-have the guts to do what it takes to get what you want. In life and in business. Fun-if it’s not fun, why do it? I’m redesigning my entire work to include more fun and
interaction so that my clients are leaving calls rejuvenated and joyful but still growing their businesses! Resilient-The obstacles you encounter are just slight bumps to jump over quickly. Then you shake it off and keep your eyes on the prize!

1) Tell us a little something about your business…

There’s a lack of resources when it comes to the care of women in midlife, and
especially during the menopause transition, which I decided to rectify by becoming an NCMP, entrepreneur, and the founder of MenopausED. In general, women aren’t aware of the physical, emotional, and cognitive changes of the menopause transition. Some women breeze right through menopause but many have their quality of life
affected by the hormone changes of midlife (40+). I demystify menopause and talk about sexual health. I provide science-based information, support, care,
empowerment, and humour-I got rid of the Seven Dwarfs of Menopause and replaced them with The PAUSE-itives. Women shouldn’t suffer alone, there’s help!

2) When was your lightbulb moment?

My lightbulb moment happened in my mid 40s when my teenage son asked me if I was bipolar, because my mood swings were so extreme. That made me look for help, and like most people I went online where I found a lot of marketing disguised as education. When I landed on the North American Menopause Society’s (NAMS) website I
understood what was going on with me and I was very relieved. I knew I wasn’t the only women going through this change and I founded MenopausEd to help others
navigate the change and improve their quality of life, relationships, and work.

3) Three words of advice…

Resilience… Patience… Commitment

In this special feature we share a story by 11 year old Aneesa and one of the “speeches” presented to her classmates. We think it demonstrates the power of family relationships and the importance of Informal Mentorship. With parental approval we share this story….

Taylor Swift once said “my dad is a chitter chatter, the social butterfly; friendly; knows everybody in the whole world by six degrees; tells me that every performance was the best he’s ever seen, every new
outfit is the coolest, he’s my constant cheerleader”

This sounds exactly like MY DAD.

I don’t remember the first time I met my dad as a newborn but I do remember the story about this one night when I was only a few weeks old. My dad was holding me on the couch and I wouldn’t stop crying, he held me on his chest and comforted me.  When I finally fell asleep he accidentally dropped the remote, but couldn’t get it, as he was afraid to wake me. It happened to be stuck on the worst channel of all. Horror movies! And he hates them. He didn’t want to wake me up because he knew I wouldn’t want to go back to sleep, so for me, he watched horror movies all night.

My dad is my world and tonight I am here to tell you all about our special connection, all the things we have in common, and about the many pranks and games we play.

Our special connection can’t be compared. We tell jokes that no one understands, no matter how many times we tell them, they aren’t even inside jokes! We think alike so much that sometimes it is just creepy! He always gives the best hugs and when we’re together we are like the same person.

But DNA isn’t the only thing we share, we also have a lot in common. We love the same movies, foods, restaurants and songs, and we listen to 80’s music all day long. Thanks to him I now know 90% of all 80s and 90s music.

We absolutely love to play games together and play pranks on each other. One example of a prank he played on me was a few years ago when I was sleeping in my room. My dad woke me up at three o’clock in the morning and said “Aneesa it’s time for school” I was too lazy to check my phone to see what time it was, so I got up. I started getting changed, and finally he said that it was the middle of the night! We also play a game we call the circle game. You have to make your hands into a circle and put it below your waist. If somebody looks at it you have to punch them lightly in the shoulder. It’s so fun! I know It sounds like a silly game and a waste of time, but that’s what I thought at first too. You just need to give it a try.

Even though we’re always joking around we always know when the other has had a bad day. No matter what, we are always there for each other. One time I had a bad day and I got a really bad mark on my math test. I got in the car and he asked me what was wrong, after I told him he immediately took me to go get ice cream at dairy cream. We had a really good talk and he made me feel so much better about myself.

There is no one in the world like my dad and I know our relationship will be so strong throughout the years of my life. Our relationship reminds me of the theme song from the show Friends. It says

“I’ll be there for you, when the rain starts to pour. I’ll be there for you, like I’ve been there before.
I’ll be there for you, because you’re there for me too.”

1) Tell us a little something about your business…
The journey began when my father died at age 45 and left no insurance or proper
support structures for my Mom. I became caregiver while being a student and mother. The impact this had in changing the direction of my life made me realize the importance of planning and caring for families. The book shares stories and advice on how to plan for the unforeseen moments in life. What Happens If…Navigating your life path with a financial GPS.

2) When was your lightbulb moment?
After many years in the insurance business, I realized how difficult it is for people to navigate the many options available to protect their families. I wanted to make sure that everyone was able to make the right decision by sharing stories and information that was easy to follow and educational. When people are able to relate to the stories it helps them understand how they too may find solutions that fit their individual needs.

3) Three words of advice…
Dream big…Be persistent and Persevere. My life experience is a testament to building a dream, creating a plan and following your authentic journey to realize your goals.
Stay true to your path and success will follow.

1) Tell us a little something about choosing the hospitality industry…

I’ve always been surrounded by good food and drink in my life.  At university, I felt aimless and unsatisfied, eventually realizing my love was making people happy with food.  After many years of learning my craft, I opened my first
restaurant in 2010.  Our company now owns and operates 7 units from a
boutique hotel to a taco tequila bar.

2) When was your lightbulb moment?

My lightbulb moment was meeting my now-business-partner and realizing what I was terrible at the business side of the business.  I’m very good at making wonderful food, creating relationships and being creative.  I’m terrible at actually running a business.  You need to be honest and surround yourself with people who are good at what you suck at!

3) Three words of advice… (OK 6 words of advice!)

Be Morally Strong…Bold…Have Fun

1) Tell us a little something about your business…
Saij Elle is an education and consultancy platform that advocates for women’s financial wellness. I take a holistic approach in that I educate women and inspire them to take action through my content,
workshops and coaching. I also work with companies to build financial wellness programs for their
employees. These are built with a diversity and inclusion lens, because one’s financial journey is
personal. And men and women approach their finances very differently! I launched Saij Elle because having been in the financial industry for 20 + years, there was one worrisome recurring theme I kept
seeing. And that is a majority of people are not preparing adequately to live a financial secure life! Women face even greater challenges in that they face a wage gap  – which equates to less savings over their lifetime. And yet when it comes to all aspects of their financial wellness – literacy, confidence, and
engagement with the financial industry- they lag men. This is something no woman can afford to do!

2) When was your lightbulb moment?
Educating people on the importance of financial security has always been a passion of mine.
While I’ve loved working in the financial industry and believe they play one of the most important roles in helping people and societies build a sustainable financial future, I also know that the sector is falling short. There’s too much emphasis on products and too little emphasis on understanding people’s personal financial challenges. I knew that the only way I could use my voice to enact real change and avoid conflict of interest was to move from the “inside” to the “outside, and work with many key stakeholders. It was scary to let go of job security, but I felt so strongly about my mission I knew I had to act now or I never would.

3) Three words of advice…
Don’t Underestimate Grit – When starting off, you’ll face many “No’s”; you’ll feel like you’re taking one step forward and five steps back. Don’t give up. Hold on to the small victories and keep stepping
forward. I’ve learned the universe is always working in our favour. It just takes time for the “stars to align.” Find Your Tribe – No one ever achieves success alone. Find key people in your circle who will help you succeed professionally and personally: one you can turn to for advice; one who will advocate for you and help you find the right connections; one who’ll nudge you to keep moving; and one who’ll support you personally. Stay True to your Vision – Your business was born out of your insights, intuition and passion. There will be many who will give you their ‘2 cents”, suggest why it won’t work or try to lead you in a different direction. While they may be well-intentioned and have some valid points, remember you know your business more than they do. Stay true to your “why”.

Grit…Tribe…Vision

1) Tell us a little something about your journey…
I’m honoured to make a difference in the lives of women through the Healthy Wealthy and Wise Coaching Program. I specialize in helping women recover from narcissistic abuse and claim their power to create the abundant and fulfilling life they deserve. I also support entrepreneurs who are inspired to build a successful coaching business of their own.
My journey began after I experienced divorce, burnout and life-threatening depression. I overcame my fears by taking risks to empower myself and created a life of purpose I love. I’m inspired to help other women do the same.
I believe powerful coaching is essential to mirror back to my clients the choices they’re making that are not serving them while listening, guiding and supporting them to learn and grow into their highest and best version.

2) When was your lightbulb moment?
My lightbulb moment occurred when I realized that my “dark night of the soul” experience was not a breakdown but actually a breakthrough opportunity to create a beautiful new life. I have witnessed countless women share their innermost feelings and experiences and realize many of us are facing similar illusions and obstacles to happiness.
As I became conscious that many women all over the world are going through comparable challenges, I saw the need for women such as myself, who have triumphantly come out the other side, to help encourage and guide those who are struggling on their own journey.

3) Three words of advice…
I believe we each have a special gift to offer the world and in order to do so and be fully expressed, we must first heal ourselves to break the cycle. It is my passion to mentor women who are motivated and determined to rise and live healthy, wealthy and wise so they can live their best life and thrive.
